Year 2000
BuiltWithNOF

During the year 2000, a lot of work was done on the Billiards Hall, staircases, and on the second storey of the facade. One cannot negate the existence of difficulties and/or problems in a project of this magnitude but so far the problems encountered were always solved-the project as it stands today bears witness to this.
* Following the feast of the Assumption (2000) - the Doric facade of these premises was sketched all along the facade and the mouldings on the first course were hand-sculptured  by Joe Zerafa, John Spiteri and Martin Formosa.
* In the meantime, work resumed  on the Billiard Hall, the kitchenette and toilets - this work was done by Carmel Caruana and a good number of other volunteers
.

The first six Tuscan columns were put in place.

on the 18th March 2000 the concrete of the beams was done under the supervision of Joe Spiteri. On the left is Innocent Centorrino who is often on site observing and giving council to the voluntary workers.

The ground floor was roofed on the 15th April 2000. Visible are the boundary stones which were pulled up by crane by Mario Bondin with borrowed apparatus  by the Frida brothers.

Joe Zerafa & John Spiteri sculpting the boundaries.

Mario Camilleri & Karmenu Magro doing the stair shutter. It was  a difficult job because of the eliptic form.

The concrete of the second roof involved great steel beams. The shutter was made by Emanuel Bugeja.

* On Nov- 5 - Leli Bugeja and Emanuel Grixti carried on with the steel reinforcing of the concrete beams.
* On Nov. 6 - the first hand sculptured course of the facade was completed and the work on the mouldings of the third course began.
* On Nov- 9-a consignment of large stone blocks was delivered from the stone quarry nicknamed ta' Tunes of Mqabba.
* A considerable amount of work was carried out by Leli Bugeja on the concrete beam shutters - Joe Spiteri gave his share of advice in this regard.
* On Dec- 2-the concrete beams of the intermediate level were casted.
* On Dec-11 the twelve large stone blocks that form that part of the balcony were completed.
* On Dec-15 - the Billiard Hall roof was put in place with precast , reinforced concrete slabs.

On the 15th June 2000 a concert was organised for the first time in the basement. This was the preparation for recording the CD which is already for sale.

We thank all the voluntary workers mentioned above and more. Because of them not a cent was spent on working hours.
